What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 is a zoonotic virus which means it was spread from animals to humans. COVID-19 is a part of the wider Coronavirus family which in the past has included other zoonotic viruses such as SARS and MERS. Common symptoms caused by COVID-19 can include fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, an infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death. How can I stay safe?

The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends following the below measures to protect yourself and others from spreading the virus:

1) Wash your hands frequently
2) Maintain social distancing of at least 1 meter between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing
3) Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth as these are the common areas in which the virus can enter your body
4) Practice respiratory hygiene by carrying around tissues, covering your mouth and mouth with your bent elbow when coughing or sneezing and disposing of used tissues immediately
5) Stay home if you feel unwell and seek medical attention if you have fever, cough or breathing difficulties

Travel Requirements:

All air passengers coming to the United States, including U.S. citizens, are required to have a negative COVID-19 test result or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 before they board a flight to the United States. See the Frequently Asked Questions for more information.

Wearing a mask over your nose and mouth is required on planes, buses, trains, and other forms of public transportation traveling into, within, or out of the United States and while indoors at U.S. transportation hubs such as airports and stations. Travelers are not required to wear a mask in outdoor areas of a conveyance (like on open deck areas of a ferry or the uncovered top deck of a bus). CDC recommends that travelers who are not fully vaccinated continue to wear a mask and maintain physical distance when traveling.
